I got this bulb to replace the 12v 5 watt halogen in our little fiber optics Christmas tree that burned out two days before Christmas.Although this little tree isn't our main tree, I didn't want to have to put it away because the bulb burned out.It's the little tree I've been putting in our kitchen for several years that slowly turns around as the fiber optics change color. It's kind of one of those "cheesy" Christmas decorations we can't live without...it's about 24" tall and is a shiny green material with fiber optic strands running up through the base of the tree.The Hikari brand bulb that I had previously purchased in 2012 would not make it here before Christmas so I ordered this Sunlite brand because it looked the same. What I didn't realize is that the "cover guard" on this bulb is not referring to the cone shield around the bulb, but rather to a clear plastic cover over the entire opening.The clear cover over the opening diminishes the light coming off the bulb so the light is less intense compared to the version without the clear cover, which is what was originally supplied with our fiber optics tree.Since I bought two of these Sunlite bulbs, I'm pretty much stuck with them but will use them as back ups only. I'm ordering the correct 5 watt 12v Hikari Halogen now to have for next year.

Disclaimer: First off, the bulb worked perfectly. There is nothing wrong with the product itself. However, the 3-star review is for my specific use of it...not for it not working. I purchased this bulb to replace one that was in a fiber-optic snowman Christmas decoration. I found that this bulb is much dimmer than the original that was in the snowman, even though it is the same wattage. I'm pretty certain it is due to the fact that this bulb has a lens cover guard on it, where as the original did not. I think the cover guard reduces the light output onto the fiber optics, making it less bright. So, if you are looking to replace a bulb for your fiber-optics, I recommend finding one without the cover guard on it. If this company makes one without, I will purchase it, as I have no problem with the quality of the bulb I received.

Like many others, I bought this to replace the bulb in a fiber optic christmas decor--anoutdoors snowman. The description doesn't say anything about them having a lens cover--but they do. A clear one and the light is bright white. This bulb has made the fiber optics lightup brighter and show much better than the last replacement bulb I bought. I bought 6 of theseso I should be good for several years to come. If you need to replace a fiber optics bulb, thisa good one!

This bulb is exactly as pictured. The only problem I had was it's too large for what I needed it for. The reason for the 3 stars is for the poor description of the bulb size. The bulb is exactly 1 and 3/8" long counting the prongs on the bottom (1 and 1/8" minus the prongs). The top of the bulb is also 1 and 3/8" wide. I hope this more accurate description of the bulb size helps someone else.

I bought this to replace a bulb in a small fiber optic Christmas tree and it worked great! I was so happy that my tree is working again because it holds sentimental value for me. I was having a hard time finding this exact bulb in the store, so I was thrilled Amazon had it, and that it was a reasonable price.

Replaced a lamp inside a fiber optic Santa Claus. This one has a lens over the bulb, but still fit perfectly.
