Outstanding and very easy to use light. Great for my studio photography or for videography when needed. It's small and pocketable which is very convenient. It has very good light output and can fill a room if need be. The color temperature generally seems to be accurate but any issues you have can be very easily adjusted in post. It also has some very fun active effects for videography that I can see coming in handy. The look is a beautiful vintage silver with black faux leather. The build seems to be solid aluminum except for the front which is a diffused plastic. The weight is very good considering it is a battery with a big light grid attached. Amazing overall and insane value. It also has a mobile app that allows for instant control the second you boot up the app. Just be sure that your channel is correct and that Bluetooth is enabled.

I’ve purchased a few smaller camera lights but was never actually happy with them. They were either cheap feeling, broke easily or the varying levels of light within them didn’t cover as much as expected. The Viltrox Retro 08X is an example of value done right.DesignFirst off, the design of this light surprised me. To get a majority metal and pho leather construction in similar products, you usually have to pay upwards of $60 but this gives you that and we aren’t talking about some thin hollow feeling metal. It’s of a fairly dense quality and feels like something that will stand the test of time. The consistency and quality of this metal carries over to the buttons on this unit. They also have a satisfying amount of feedback to them when pressed. The pho leather feeling on the backside allows for better grip and looks aesthetically pleasing .The display on the back is bright, clear and extremely useful for making fine adjustments. on the left and bottom, you have a standard ¼ screw thread for mounting in horizontal or vertical positions.Bluetooth controlSetting up Bluetooth control is pretty simple and straight forward. All you’ll need to do is download and set up the “weeylite Pro” app and then select the channel number and corresponding letter. This information is located on the back of the lights display. Once this is done the light should connect instantaneously. My only issue with Bluetooth control is that the light must be kept in a sort of standby mode in order for it to be operated in this way. This means that the battery will drain even if slower than when it is turned on fully.Operation and featuresUsing this light is extremely simple. Pressing the red button turns it on in a few seconds, while the M button is used to switch between the individual modes. The "set" button can be used to select a specific attribute within the current mode and the +/- rocker is used to set the specifics of those attributes.This light has 4 adjustable color values which are Red, Green. Blue, Yellow and White. Each of these can be adjusted with a value between 0 and 100. This can be done via the light it self or using the Bluetooth connection and Weeylite Pro app.From the unit itself you can access the CCT, HSL, RGBWY, color chip, and scene modes.Using the app will give you access to three more modes which are X,Y coordinates, Color picker and My scene which is essentially presets saved by the user. When using the Weeylite Pro app, manipulation of any particular setting is simple and straightforward . Anybody can pick this up and start using it without any explanation at all.Charging and BatteryCharging is done via the USB C port on the top. The Max charging power you’ll get is 5 Watts which really isn’t fast at all. Though it isn’t fast, at least It does mean that pretty much any USB type C charger should work.All in all there really isn’t much to not like about the retro 08x. Its reasonably priced and feature rich to the point where you wont regret it.What I like-Reasonably priced-Very solid metallic construction with pho leather back-Multiple choices for configuration-Bluetooth control-Easily storable-2 ¼ screw threads for vertical and horizontal adjustment-Can be used while chargingWhat could be better-Wish this came with a defusser like the bigger versions did-Sometimes, the back lcd will flicker over and over again when connected via Bluetooth. This doesn’t always happen but just something I took notice off. I’m sure this can be fixed via firmware if upgrades are possible, otherwise it does not at all hinder operation.-When configuring the scene mode from the app, it wasn’t completely obvious that you needed to choose another configuration (such as RGB, color picker) to turn it off. Not a big deal once you understand how to use this feature but can be surprising the first time around.-Sort of wish the battery chartered faster given how big it is. 6000mah is more than we get in most flagship smartphones and the rate of charge makes it takes a long time to reach a full battery.

I'm impressed with the stylish and durable build quality of the light. It feels premium with that nice looking leather like finish on the back, great button placement and comes with both horizontal and vertical mounting slots. Its compact size makes it incredibly portable, easily fitting into my camera bag without adding significant weight.This light has many different lighting modes to choose from and each allows you to easily set brightness and other color properties. I use CCT (2500-8500K range) and color (RGB/HSI) modes the most. The brightness dial lets me dial in the setting that I need the most, I found this light very capable even in light environment, to get that additional backdrop.Battery is really good and seem to match the 8hour at 50% specification. I've gone through many hours of tests at various brightness levels and haven't had to charge it in a week that I've had it.I use wide range of Viltrox lenses on my Sony and Fuji cameras, the quality of those are superb (just read the reviews) and this battery pack doesn't disappoint with same level of quality as well.

I got item as described. I’m very happy with this purchase. The light is bright and the good thing is that you can customize the color temperature and tint. I added 1 plus magenta and it made it just right to my liking. And the remote controlled app is awesome

This little light is pretty great! I haven't tried all of it's features, but I left it on for 8 hours at 50% brighness, just to see how long it would last. It stayed on the full 8 hours, so I'll presume that it will last 3-4 hours at 100% brightness. Even at 50% it casts a lot of light, and will be a great fill light, either up close or in the background for a lot of the projects I do. Most likely it will be used as an off camera fill light source - the Amaran Ace 25 with all of it's accessories on will be my preferred on-camera light for events and photography.I didn't get the cold-shoe accessory with mine for some reason (I think this may have been a return) which is fine, I will use other accesssories to mount it to whatever angle I might need to use it from.But - I like this little guy so much, I bought a few more for my kit. Can't beat that battery life!
