Product Description Creating powered multimedia speakers to follow the Audioengine 5 was a challenge, but we feel we've managed to duplicate the signature sound of the Audioengine 5's in a much smaller package perfectly suited for your desktop or a smaller space in your home or office. The Audioengine 2 is a great introduction to high-quality audio and the perfect upgrade for your computer or iPod. To say that the bass on the Audioengine 2 is substantial for their size may be an understatement, but you should be the judge. The bass was coaxed from the A2 with some very clever acoustic and electrical design and without using any DSP or fake bass boost circuits. Wood remains a preferred speaker enclosure material for its stiffness at higher volume levels and the sealed cabinet focuses just the right amount of low end from the tuned front port slots. The A2 was designed for your desktop but is also perfect for smaller rooms. Well-suited for all types of music, movies and videogames, the A2 sounds great with or without a subwoofer. Using a similar design as the Audioengine 5, the A2 power amplifiers are built inside the left speaker, providing a very efficient system. An auto-sleep standby feature is also included to conserve power when you're not playing music. We've included 1/8 mini jack and RCA inputs so connecting A2 is easy. No software installs, plug-ins or sound card upgrades. Just connect the audio output (or headphone jack) from your computer, iPod, Airport Express, Sonos system, PSP - or any other audio device - into the A2 rear panel input. All cables that you may need are included. The Audioengine 2 sets a new level of audio and aesthetic quality for Powered Multimedia Speakers and further closes the gap between computer speakers and home audio. Even if you're not an audio enthusiast, we guarantee you will still hear a difference! Not for teenagers.
Bought these back in March 2012 and seeing some of the negative reviews I thought I'd throw in my two-penneth.These speakers are wasted on a PC! These babies are Hi-Fi quality and then some. I have a project turntable in my lounge which is directly connected via the built in phono pre-amp to these and the sound is SWEET!!!! I have them positioned roughly 6 to 8 inches from the wall and the bass is tight, the mid-range controlled and the highs are crystal clear. All the teenage bass freaks will probably hate them as unless it's rattling your mummy's ornaments off the mantelpiece they must be rubbish.

Brilliant sound quality
After spending alot of time researching speakers on Head-Fi, I purchased these. I have had these speakers for about four months now.Out of the box, I was very impressed by the packaging and then the build of the speakers. They feel solid, look great and are easy to set up. I have mine set up on my desk, connecting to my laptop through a Fiio e7 DAC, but they also sound great plugged straight into devices such as ipods and phones.Like other reviews have mentioned, the sound quality greatly improves after a burn in period, as with all high quality speakers. I find the speakers to very detailed and offer a nice amount of bass. They also can be quite loud, despite the size and I have used them a number of times for house parties.I like these speakers so much, I am going to purchase their bigger brother, the A5+ for my living room

Fantastic quality for price and size.
I like to have things for a while before I sit down to write a review for them and I've had these a couple of months now and they're honestly getting better all the time. The Pros: They've replaced a much larger set that were attached to a pre-amp and I purchased them primarily for their space-saving capacity, for which they're perfect, they're pretty tiny and consume almost no desk real-estate, perfect for people with confined space. I was honestly surprised just how amazing they sound. I was expecting a fairly average pair of speakers and ended up with something that sounds fantastic. They took a little bit of time to break in (no where near the length of time others have reported and they still sound good until they do). Also I'm not embarrassed to admit that a huge part of my choice was based on the aesthetics of these speakers compared to their similarly priced rivals and honestly, the pictures on amazon don't do them justice, they're more matte in appearance than the pictures had led me to believe and in my opinion look better for it.The Cons: First up, for those of you into dubstep or other very bass heavy music, mine have ever so slight distortion on the bass at really high volumes. That said, I couldn't foresee any situation other than a very crowded house party where they'd need to go up high enough to actually notice. Likewise, obviously, these aren't going to have comparable bass as a 2.1 set of speakers, but in my opinion they perform admirably on anything other than the bassiest tunes. The Meh: It all comes with a lot of faff -- little bags, complicated packaging, that sort of thing. If you're into it, you're into it. I hate clutter and so immediately gave the stuff away/threw them out. A little annoying, but I understand that different people have different tastes and that I'm probably a-typical in this regard. All in all, an awesome little pair of speakers. If you're like me and appreciate a clean desk and their clean cut aesthetics, they're a fantastic buy.

Superb mini desktop monitors at a keen price.
For the price and the size/portability, i don't think anything can beat this. These were bought over similar speakers including the Creative T20s and the Bowers & Wilkins MM1. These narrowly beat out the MM1s in my selection, purely because of the price. With a difference between £160 for these and £360 (at best) for the MM1s, these were the obvious selection as the sound quality different is indeed quite negligible.

Superb speakers
Just got these via amazon- great service again. Excellent quality, loads of bass from such a small package- and these things can go loud! Even the wife noticed how good her music sounded on them! Highly recommended.

Great for movies
I used the A2 in conjunction with my squeezebox receiver. Although the listening experience was overall satisfying it was no more enjoyable than using my squeezebox boom and I had higher expectations from the speakers given the price. In a blind test with songs not heavy on bass, at low to mid volumes, I had a hard time distinguishing between the two. In general the bass is what set this system apart from other speakers of similar size/price. Unfortunately the bass also distorts at high volumes, depending the input. Even without the distortion I felt something was missing when listening to music. What I found rather surprising is how well the A2s coped with movies. The A2 accept twin inputs and once I connected them to my Bluray player I noticed a dramatic improvement over the TV sound. Having previously tried the Pure Avanti Flow or the Squeezebox Boom I had noticed no significant improvement over the standard TV sound. In that respect the A2s were almost as good as the Yamaha sound projector YSP600.
