This thing is GREAT!!!
I bought this item to use with a rented engine hoist for a transmission install. Best 30 something dollars I've ever spent!!! This thing saved me tons of time and frustration. It was as easy as a turn of a handle to get a CVT lined up perfectly with the engine. God tier tool. Build quality is decent and for a do it yourselfer like me its more then adequate. I cant compare it to another one because this is the only engine leveler I've ever used, but it worked better then I could have even hoped for. I have used Torin jacks and jack stands before, but this is the first item from their "big red" line I've purchased. As long as its kept dry and lubricated there's really nothing that can fail. I'm not sure what else to say except if you're doing an engine or transmission that needs to be lined up for installation, this equipment is a must have.

Gamechanger
After using this to pull motor and other lifting jobs, I don't know how I never bought one before makes a huge difference in lifting. Well worth it. This is very sturdy, is easy to operate, and and should be included with any hoist.

Good tool to have in the toolbox
This hoist worked great for me. Tried to install engine with chain only, but could not get it at the right angle. This item is well built and the cork screw shaft allows you to tilt the engine to the correct angle needed to mate with the transmission. The cork screw worked smoothly with no binding at all. I would recommend this item to anyone.

Good for the price
This is a great upgrade to my old Northern Tool leveler. The adjusting rod is far beefier and the adjustable position on the main bar is great. I do not like hoe the main bar, the red one, is loose fitting. It wobbles easily and is nothing like my old one, where it is made of steel square tube. I would have liked to see maybe some steel bushings on the sides to stop this, but that goes against the lowest cost possible to produce. This is something I plan on modifying (adding bushings) to resolve this issue. I dislike the possibility of an unexpected slip that can stress the parts, which can lead to an unexpected failure, although unlikely. I also dislike the mounting of the chains to the main bar. The shackles are sloppy on the main bar, with a lot of movement to each side. This again I would like to see more support to prevent unexpected slipping and movement. All that said, the product works good. It seems to be a product of the quality is good enough to do what is claimed. Given the price, I find that acceptable, especially since I might use this once per year. For a DIYer, this is a great product. IT will do what is needed and do it well. Spend more if you want on other brands, otherwise, this will do what you need.

2011 Silverado LS swap
Very happy with this leveler. Nicely made and comes mostly all assembled.Performed well and helped immensely with removing the broke motor and installing the new one. Especially useful for angling the motor exactly to mate with the transmission in the truck.I recommend a good lubricant on the exposed main leveling screw (Schaeffers Penetro worked great!).

Great tool and great price
Bought this hoist accessory to make my work easier. I remove and install engines as part of my retirement work. Had a friend that used this type unit and was impressed, but his broke down due to inferior construction. Saw this on Amazon at a give-away price and figured I would take the leap. Could not believe how well this hoist adapter works, regardless of big block or small block engine size. It is easy to bolt up. It is compact in size. But, best of all, the threaded position system works effortlessly. Big Red continues to make good and reliable products.

Very well made
Bought this to lift a 600 pound lathe onto legs. Also purchased a “cherry picker” (engine lift) to use this with. Very well made and sturdy. I ended up not using it because I had some heavy duty straps instead. Easy to connect to the lift. I decided to keep this for the future just in case. Very happy with the quality and price, though.

Worked great - while it lasted
I did two engine swaps with this tool and it worked well overall with some caveats. There are a few minor gripes that others have mentioned - at steep angles the handle interferes with a chain which can make it difficult or impossible to turn, and the plastic knob on the handle comes unthreaded. The leveler will drop shavings as the metal rod and guide cylinder wear. You will want to make sure there are no openings for those shavings to land in and potentially cause harm.My leveler experienced a failure of the metal cylinder the threaded rod passes through to angle the engine. The threads internal to that cylinder wore out from use, resulting in it skipping teeth while trying to adjust the angle. These loads were well within the weight rating, this is simply result of wear.I suggest adding grease to the threaded rod to reduce wear on the rod and particularly the positioning cylinder. That may increase the useful life of the wear components. It may also reduce the amount of shavings that land on your engine.Disappointing it's not more durable. 3 stars because it's "only" $30 and did 2 swaps (2 out, 2 in), although the last install was made more challenging due to the limited ability to change the angle.
